The Gisenyi region has been characterized by war, genocide, and violence from the DRC that left many widows and orphans who were left vulnerable to HIV and deeper poverty. Women were stuck in a cycle of poverty and were spending their money in court (land litigation, polygamy disputes, etc.), so ADEPE started a legal clinic to support representation in court, mediation, and other legal services.
